Mr. Michael R. Chevalier, Chief Scientist

Mr. Chevalier has more than 30 years of diverse project experience with applications of quantitative and qualitative analytics with particular emphasis in electric power operations including load forecasting, demand-side management, consumer behavior and energy efficiency, and generation technologies. He has been the Principal or Senior Investigator on projects for the U.S. Army, the U.S. Navy, NASA, major investor-owned electric utilities, and electric generation and distribution cooperatives. Topics included fault management, signal processing, impact isolation, and optimization of shipboard hybrid propulsion systems. He holds a BA in Economics, an MBA, and additional professional education in applied mathematics and statistical programming. He is member of the International Building Performance Simulation Association and the Association of Energy Engineers.




Dr. Matt Heric, Senior Manager

Dr. Heric is the founder and CEO of IAVO Research and Scientific, MHI’s parent company. He is a serial entrepreneur and seasoned research director with more than three decades of experience of successful management of Small Business Administration SBIR/STTR, DoD, and related federal research projects. In addition to his management responsibilities, he has served as Chief Scientist or Lead Researcher on several significant projects including those for the NASA/USAF Landsat Program Office, the Navy’s Office of Naval Research, and the U.S. Army. His recent publishing focus is on the application of statistical models for automated systems and has since been a part of this community of research. He holds BS and MS degrees in Geography and a PhD in applied statistics.




Mr. Luther McNeal, Senior Research Analyst

Mr. McNeal has more than 25 years of experience in market analysis, concept development, feasibility studies, and strategic planning to support product launches and life-cycle management for clients in electric utilities, heavy industrials, commercial products, and technical research organizations. He has been the Principal or Senior Investigator on projects commissioned by the Electric Power Research Institute, the California Air Resources Board, and the National Science Foundation among others. He holds a BS in Business with a concentration in marketing. He has also continued professional development in database design, programming, and project management.




Dr. Brad Grinstead, Consulting Electrical Engineer

Dr. Grinstead is an Electrical Engineer by training and serves as the IAVO Vice President of Research and Development, MHI’s parent firm. He has over 15 years of experience in data processing and control system research. As consultant on the MHI team, his expertise includes pattern recognition, multi-source data fusion, segmentation and clustering algorithms, large-scale data processing, and electrical systems modeling. His experience managing and developing new research for multiple contracts involving data processing, pattern analysis, statistics, and automated information understanding brings a wealth of experience to the firm. Dr. Grinstead has a BS in computer science and BS, MS, and PhD degrees in electrical engineering and is a member of IEEE.
